The best laid plans of mice and men often go awry. – Robert Burns
I’ve heard the “best laid plans of mice and men” for a good portion of my life but I had never looked up the end of that statement. “Often go awry.” I understood the concept all along. And we all certainly live this truth, whether we are aware or not.
We had a plan, we had a vision. We had a dream and we were acting on the best information we had. Then things changed; a different opportunity, a new place, a great situation. And then our vision changed.
We could see ourselves in a new place and picture this potential new life. And we bought in. We didn’t realize how strongly we had taken on this new vision until it was taken away (at least temporarily). Our plans, both of them, went awry. And we know this is the way things go; we volunteered with Junior High students at a church for years…things don’t go as planned.
It was still a jolt. It caused us to look at what we were planning and view it through new eyes. I’m seeing our plans going awry as a gift; an opportunity to tap into what our hearts are really seeking.
Seeking to find.
