Picture Yourself…
You’ve been in meetings all day.
You feel like your contributions aren’t being heard.
You’re frustrated.
You get back to your desk and a co-worker has left you a note
What do you see?
What does the voice inside your head say first?
“Oooooo, so close.”
“What an idiot.”
“How come a working professional does not understand basic grammar rules?!?”
“Derp, derp.”
Do you miss the message because of the typo?
Have you been bombarded by so many negative thoughts (yours and others) that your initial reaction is to criticize?
(Side note: me too!)
Consider another way that leads to peace and freedom
I want to encourage you to see the gift.
When the Divine wants you to know you are loved and wonderful just by being you, it does not matter who the messenger is or the skill level with which they deliver the message. It should be the gift that matters.
If your life to date has been a series of messages about needing to work harder, be better, make something of yourself, I would like you to have the following gift:
You are amazing. All of you. Right now.
I will not be the most skilled person in delivering that message to you. But if you read that and scoffed or blew it off as unimportant, the gift is especially for you.
You are amazing.
I want to celebrate you. Yes, of course, he’s stronger than you. She’s thinner than you. They are taller than you. She has better clothes than you. She is better at the job than you. I beg of you, please do not let those things define you. If you cannot see your worth and value without all of those things, I can guarantee that being stronger, thinner, faster, richer, and the like will only cloud the picture of who you really are.
You are not your things.
You are not the dreams that are unfulfilled. You are not the path you have not taken. You are not the vision you have for the future.
You are now. You are enough.
And when you believe that, then life becomes a place to play and experiment, and less about how you have disappointed so many people, but mostly yourself.
You are loved. You may not feel it. You may not believe it. But I beg of you one more time for one more thing: Believe.
See the gift and breathe.
And know that you are loved.
