Snip Snip – Recovery

Lots to catch up on from yesterday. Quick recap, snip snip is a polite euphemism for vasectomy. And recovery is delicate and often uneventful if instructions are followed. I thought I had followed everything carefully. Nature still has her way of surprising me.

I kept the ice and pain management routines up superbly. Things went well and I just went slowly wherever I needed to go. Crawled in bed and had some lovely rest.

I woke up at my normal time (mid 5 am) and went to use the lavatory, as one does. I felt a little nauseous and my head was hurting.

Rumor has it that some time passed. The next thing I remember, I was sitting on the floor, all the lights were on, and my wife was looking at me and talking to people on the phone. About me.

“No, he was mumbling incoherently and moaning. He seems to be coming out of it though. Ya, we’re upstairs in the bathroom.”

Turns out, I fainted. While peeing! (Vasovagal Syncope, anyone?) And probably bruised some ribs. (Update: likely fractured. Maybe separated. Definitely needing weeks to heal.) The gentlemen from North Metro fire were superb and my wife was amazing at keeping everything together.

So, it has been quite the morning!

I’m now on the couch (my designated recovery spot), laptop open, ice pack down low and ice pack around the ribs. Drinking coffee. Eating an apple. Crunching some almonds.

Oh, and definitely taking a break from medication. Because wow.

Lower level pain? Much better than yesterday. Rotating two gel-based ice packs for your 20/40 on/off cycle is highly recommended.

All of this craziness has greatly emphasized the need for times of just relaxing and caring for the body, mind, and soul. I hope you find time for that without the need of medical procedures!

Happy Friday!
