February 12

  1. Sun-baked interiors on cold days
  2. Pink clouds
  3. The ability to be slow

Were I to go to the grocery store, I would hurry so that I could get back home quickly so that I don’t inconvenience my wife or upset my kids for “being gone for so long.” Turns out, my wife feels no inconvenience and the kids will feel whatever they feel, regardless of how quickly I get back. Or don’t.

Were I to run an errand at lunch, I would hurry back because I don’t want to inconvenience anyone or cause anyone any concern about my stepping out the doors of the office during the day. I’m so sorry for having needs and tending to those needs. Sorry.

Again, that’s all changing. One way to practice the practice of slowing down? Slowing down my walking pace. It feels like an act of rebellion to casually walk somewhere. Anywhere. Particularly places that require me to accomplish something; groceries, errands, toilet paper, you know.

So I’m slowing down. And it. feels. good.
