Thank and Grow Rich – Day 27

Sunset just over silhouetted mountains. The sky is rich with indigo and pale orange.

February 27

  1. A nice drive home
  2. A supportive desk chair
  3. Longer days

Most of my 8 hour work days, for as long as I’ve been working (20 years!?!), have seen me sitting on my biscuit. And for most of that time, I’ve had office equipment envy. Which is a cousin to all the other envies and, really, no surprise at all.

One of the more elusive items, for me, was the chair in which I sat. I have incorrigible posture and often forget, for long stretches of time, to not sit as if my spine were a turtle shell. Chairs were viewed as commodity items in most of the places I’ve worked. “You’re lucky to be here, kid. Sit on whatever we give you and like it.”

I am at a place now where there was a very nice chair. And it went from one Executive to another. And then the last Executive was no fan of the chair style and preferred the other chairs we have. So they offered it to me.

And now, the chair I’ve longed for, lo, these many years, gently holds my nether regions while I peck away at keys all day. Is it gluttonous to spend so many words and thoughts on a chair? Maybe? But I do know it brings me joy and I’m grateful. When I remember to remember.
