The Story of Derp

March 2

  1. Surprise office visits
  2. Balloons
  3. Honest, hard conversations

Today is my 42nd birthday. Yesterday, 3 adorable children and a lovely wife came to my office and surprised me with balloons, a card they made, and a delicious belgian chocolate in the shape of a tulip.

And what a surprise it was. I was sitting at my desk, head phones on, as usual, and out of the corner of my eye, 4 people and a gaggle of balloons were headed my way with smiles from my co-workers around. It was delightful.

They stayed for 15 minutes or so and I got to soak in all the love and it drastically changed how I felt about yesterday. The work day was just sort of humming along and I was looking forward to it being over, after a long week of working on things that weren’t working so well.

Once that beautiful family of mine had finished their visit and I walked back inside, there was a vibration, a giddiness, an excitement running through me. For me and my life, this was perhaps the very best way that this 30-day challenge could have ended.
