Who are we?
Grateful Seekers is a blog by Wes Colton. There have been two key moments in my life where I decided to risk comfort and the status quo. Both of those moments have resulted in the very best things in my life. My happiness and my current place of residence.
I am a seeker. I’m a “Why?” then a “How?” kind of person. My experiences, upbringing, and various kinds of privilege have left my humble. And grateful.
Knowing I do not have it all figured out and hoping to wonder aloud with anyone that wants to join in, I am a grateful seeker. I like to think my family are grateful seekers as well. Hopefully you feel the same sense of fear and adventure as you join in.
What do I write about?
Anything, really. I find it hard to isolate one part of my life experience without it losing its meaning. I like to think about what it means to be me. White, heterosexual, male, pushing 50, with three children. There are a lot of people like me that already have a voice and are using that power. Some of it for good, some of it not.
Why do I write?
My goal is to work out my own issues in a public forum. Is this healthy? I’m not sure. Does it feel right? Right now it does.
I hope to document what it looks like for me, in my situation, to pursue adventure and not settle for what is expected. This will also mean documenting all of the times that I settle for what is expected. For what is easy. For what is comfortable. And hopefully, in being honest about all of these things and working on them outside of my own head, I’ll find the freedom I seek. Gratefully.
